How often would you recommend i should test the water and clean the filter of my tropical fish tank?? - tropical fish tank filters
friends do not want your tropical fish, so I said, I have to take responsibility, I had the tank and meets the requirements for the fish I have (right temperature, the proper chemical balance, etc.) but I'm sure how often I clean it, test the water and the control of the filter. No idea how often should I?

(I have a filter cartridge, so that the conversation is different), the majority of people swear by the conversion of 10% of water every week and change the filter in the filter every 2 weeks to a month. Id personally go with the safe side and change every 2 weeks. Also a good idea to test the water by the middle of the week to see if all goes well, or if you do a water change to get the nitrates

I read petco.com (which very well with Alan) agrees to the change shall be 10% to -% 25of water every week to check the filter regularly and test water for pH, algae, and more than twice a week (if you can not) to an animal twice a week for a simple test kit (not white) to pay their costs. Never tested at least two weeks. Tropical fish are very demanding.

water changes you should do religiously every weekend. I have 3 tanks, African cichlids and do a water change every weekend 30-40 percent (keep in mind I think about my tanks, because they are in Africa, and reduces aggression - not something you want to make a tropical fish).
If you run your tank (it takes about a month or so real) cycle, you need a test kit freshwater purchase .. $ 25-30, that costs the money (value was also easy to use ..). You can use these test strips, but not reliable, because moisture is the bottle and makes their analysis shows readings.i bad would the water every couple of weeks after the test cycle, so if you can read again the following month.
Filter - I do not know what you have, but never pull out all the media inside (fill) and replace them both! miss the good bacteria in the tank and needs to make the cycle anew. What can I do to reduce costs is to take a bucket of tank water, the media and the press not to remove sponges and buckets of water in the tank (Is tap water! The more you kill your bacteria!) And put them in the filter. they begin to decline further as a replacement sponges once a year ... and not at the same time.
First, have a good filter! is likely to change let the water less frequently than the filters do a lot of work. Then after, I would recommend the change to every week - two weeks
